Washington, D.C. – To commemorate the 45th Anniversary of the March on Washington, Congressman André Carson released the following statement today:

"Forty five years ago today, an event took place that would forever change the face of the Civil Rights movement.  On that day, 300,000 Americans gathered from across the nation on the National Mall to end racial inequality and to bring our nation closer to the ideals espoused in our Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and United States Constitution.

"Dr. Martin Luther King's ‘I Have A Dream’ speech inspired community leaders, activists, and students to return to their communities and work in unison to create a more free and better America.  This nation is greatly indebted to the lasting legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King for his courage and vision to foster change for a better tomorrow."
