Washington, D.C. – Congressman André Carson released the following statement today after the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) filed genocide charges against Sudan's president for a five-year campaign of violence in Darfur.

“I commend ICC Chief Prosecutor, Luis Moreno-Ocampo, for working to ensure that criminal charges be brought against Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir for the genocide and other crimes against humanity that have occurred in the Darfur region.

“The ICC’s actions send a clear and resounding message that inhumane atrocities committed by tyrants and brutal dictators will not go unnoticed or unpunished.”
