WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman André Carson announced that he was able to secure $500,000 in the House Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations bill for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).  The funding will be used to install laptops and broadband technology in the cars of IMPD officers.

“Reducing crime in the City of Indianapolis is a priority for me,” said Congressman Carson.  “This technology will allow police officers to spend more time out on patrol keeping the streets safe and less time trying to track down information.  As a former law enforcement officer, I know first hand that having an accessible and visible police presence in the community is essential in combating crime.”

The House Appropriations Committee approved the FY 2009 House Commerce, Justice and Science bill on June 25, 2008.  Next, the bill will go to a Conference Committee that will work to combine House and Senate bills into one.  The bill must then be approved by both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate before being sent to the President to be signed into law.
