Carson Remarks on CBC Meeting with President Obama Print
February 27, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman André Carson released the following statement regarding yesterday’s meeting between Members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) and President Barack Obama on the CBC’s legislative agenda for the 111th Congress:

“As one of the youngest Members of Congress and as the youngest Member of the Congressional Black Caucus, I was especially delighted to hear from President Obama that he shares the CBC’s  vision for allocating additional federal resources to programs that will assist with the health and academic development of America’s minority youth.

“A disproportionately high number of my constituents from minority communities are uninsured and high school drop-outs.  By highlighting to the CBC how his budget makes a $600 billion investment in health care reform and dramatically increases education funding, the President has begun to demonstrate his earnest commitment to helping those underserved communities in my Congressional district and across the nation.

“This has been my second meeting with the President in the last three weeks.  In each of the conversations I have had with the President he has indicated to me his Administration’s willingness to work with me in improving the standards of living for Hoosiers families in Indiana’s Seventh Congressional District.  I look forward to working with President Obama and delivering for working families in central Indiana.”
