Congressman Carson Welcomes GOP Energy Discussion, Encourages Colleagues to Support Push for Clean Energy, Green Job Creation Print
May 27, 2009

INDIANAPOLIS - Congressman André Carson issued the following statement on the GOP-sponsored energy forum being held in Indianapolis today:

“I welcome my Congressional colleagues to the 7th Congressional District of Indiana and the great city of Indianapolis to discuss energy policy.  The Republican-led American Energy Solutions Group is hosting a series of energy discussions throughout the month of May. I am pleased that a discussion regarding our nation’s energy needs is occurring, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on ideas that will put our constituents to work.

“The American Clean Energy and Security Act,” currently being debated in Congress, will spur the creation of new renewable energy resources, increase energy efficiency, reduce the effects of global warming and transition the United States to a clean energy economy—creating hundreds of thousands of new good-paying, green jobs in the process. Indiana’s economy and its workers stand to gain greatly from passage of this much needed legislation.

“Thousands of jobs will be created with investments in clean-energy technologies, as demand increases for products like steel for wind turbines and advanced windows for energy-efficient buildings. I am hopeful that we will see the next generation of green, fuel-efficient automobiles made right here in Indiana.

“The bill contains important provisions that will protect households and businesses in Indiana from sharp increases in our electricity bills.  It provides funds for the development of clean coal technologies, such as carbon capture and sequestration, which will help heavily coal-reliant states like Indiana.  It also protects trade-exposed industries, such as steel and auto manufacturers, to level the playing field and make sure that jobs stay here in America.

“We need to take action now to unleash this potential for job creation in Indiana, to clean up our environment and to improve our nation’s security.  I am hopeful my Congressional colleagues will get on board and help Hoosiers get back to work.”
