Carson Praises Enactment of Housing Assistance Legislation Print
May 20, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman André Carson issued the following statement after President Obama signed the Helping Families Save Their Homes Act, legislation that the House passed in March that is designed to prevent foreclosures:

“In March, following reports that nearly over 3,000 Indianapolis families had lost their homes in the first two weeks of 2009, I offered my strong support for the Helping Families Save Their Homes Act.  Today, after voting again for an amended version, I was pleased to see President Obama offer the same level of support for troubled homeowners by swiftly signing this important bill into law.

“In order to revive our struggling economy, it is essential that Congress continue to work closely with this Administration in addressing our nation’s housing crisis by ensuring that working Americans are given the resources they need to avoid foreclosure.  I am proud to have participated in the bipartisan effort to bring about long overdue changes to our housing laws and I look forward to working with local homeowners as they seek to secure their long-term financial futures.”
