Congressman Carson's Statement on WellPoint's Rescission Policy Print
April 28, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman André Carson released the following statement in response to WellPoint's announcement that it would implement rescission reforms ahead of the timetable outlined in the new health care law:
"One of the key components of health reform was ending the unseemly practice of insurance companies dropping coverage when people get sick. For far too long, the health insurance industry has held all the cards when it comes to the important medical decisions made by Americans, and it's clear that the balance is shifting thanks to health care reform.

"I am encouraged by WellPoint's decision to adopt rescission reforms early, and already others, like UnitedHealthcare, are following suit.

"This ban on rescissions is one of many new policies taking effect to put people - not insurers - in charge of their own health care."
