The following is a statement from Congressman Andre Carson on today's flotilla incident in the Middle East:

"I was deeply saddened and troubled to hear about the violence that broke out aboard a civilian flotilla bound for Gaza. The international community must move quickly to gather the facts surrounding this tragedy and prevent heightened tensions from leading to further loss of life.

"The incident speaks to the increased need to address the inhumane conditions in Gaza and bring lasting peace to a region that has experienced decades of violence and upheaval.

"My thoughts and prayers are with all of the victims and their families. Let us hope that today's tragic events can strike an even greater urgency in finding a comprehensive and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."
