Carson Statement on Super Bowl Housing Legacy Project

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman André Carson issued the following statement on today's event highlighting the 32 residences that will become homes for homeless families as part of the 2012 Super Bowl Housing Legacy Project on Indianapolis' near eastside.

Nearly $3 million for the project came from the $29 million in Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funds that Congressman Carson secured for the City of Indianapolis in 2008.

"The improvements and housing opportunities being created on Indianapolis' near eastside are a great example of what the Neighborhood Stabilization Program is all about.

"We have so many neighborhoods that are fighting back against the foreclosure problem, but they need the funding and leadership to support their cause. That's why I helped to secure $29 million that is being utilized to lift up the near eastside and other neighborhoods across Indianapolis.

"While these improvements in our community are crucial, the housing created by this funding has an even bigger impact on the families that will call these residences home. I applaud all the partners who are helping to make this project happen and I look forward to the years ahead as Indianapolis' neighborhoods help move our city forward."
