Trail Side on Mass Ave. Groundbreaking
On Thursday, I took part in the official groundbreaking for a new residential development, known as Trail Side on Mass Ave, which will replace a vacant warehouse located at the east end of Massachusetts Avenue. Once completed, Trail Side will bring affordable housing to a location with great accessibility to the vibrant Mass Ave neighborhood, the Indianapolis Cultural Trail and Downtown Indianapolis. It is projects like this that show how federal funds can be put to work for Indianapolis.

This four-story, multi-use facility will include 11,000 square-feet of retail space, 69 affordable one-bedroom apartments and underground parking. Trail Side will provide much needed housing options for residents and retail options to complement the thriving businesses and cultural scene throughout the Mass Ave area.

Celebrating Black History Month with High School Students
This week, I had the enormous pleasure of speaking to high school students in Perry Township at Southport and Perry Meridian High Schools about the important role of African Americans in our nation's history.

It is an honor to pay tribute to the generations of African Americans who struggled with adversity to achieve full citizenship in American society. Black History Month also provides an opportunity to honor the too-often neglected contributions that black Americans made to our country. I am grateful for the opportunity to meet with so many engaging young Hoosiers to discuss the importance of Black History Month.

Indiana Delegation United in Defense of the Super Bowl
This week I joined with all 11 members of the Indiana Congressional delegation to call upon the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith to work together to avoid a lockout during the upcoming NFL season. As Indianapolis will host Super Bowl XLVI, a sustained lockout would be devastating for many businesses and communities in Indianapolis and throughout the state.
