CARSON RECOGNIZED BY LA RAZA, CELEBRATES CINCO DE MAYO

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, Congressman André Carson joined millions of Americans in observing Cinco de Mayo. This day marks the historic triumph of the Mexican people over the French Army in the battle of Puebla in 1862.

"Today, we celebrate the importance of Hispanics in this country, specifically the contributions Mexican-Americans have made and continue to make," said Congressman Carson. "This date reminds us that Mexican-Americans play an integral role in our nation."

Congressman Carson also received recognition from the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, for his support of the Pledge for Respect. The pledge encourages civil discourse opposes inflammatory rhetoric aimed toward Hispanic Americans.
