Rep. Carson Calls Holder Vote “Political Stunt”

Congressman Carson released today the following statement after the House’s vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress:

House Republicans today have made a mockery of the United States House of Representatives, reducing our important work to nothing more than a political stunt.

Despite Attorney General Holder’s willingness to provide nearly 8,000 pages of documents, 22 DOJ officials to testify and be interviewed, and 9 separate instances of personal testimony on the Fast and Furious tactics, Rep. Issa and his colleagues have recklessly moved forward with this resolution for political gain alone.

This baseless action is a distraction from the real work we should be doing – creating jobs and strengthening the middle class.  We have a responsibility to conduct meaningful and responsible oversight in government, but today’s vote fails to meet those requirements. I cannot and will not participate in a vote that so vehemently disregards the proud history of this institution.
