As we prepare for 2013, many of the last year’s challenges remain at the forefront of our minds. The tragedy in Connecticut, the Hurricane that ravaged the Northeast, and the lives lost in Benghazi – these events have shaken our nation and demanded that we come together and pursue a better way forward. While our communities are still reeling, we must remember that no act of violence - no moment of tragedy - will break the American spirit. We always overcome our obstacles and meet our challenges. This nation will emerge stronger.
As we look back at the last 12 months, there is also so much that we should celebrate. Our economic recovery has continued throughout 2012. The Supreme Court ensured that the milestone Affordable Care Act will continue to expand care and hold the insurance companies accountable. And, of course, our city experienced great success through events like Super Bowl XLVI, the expansion of organizations such as Second Helpings, and the awarding of $28.5 million to Warren Township Schools.
As you gather in just a few hours to welcome in the New Year with family and friends, I wish you all the very best. May the coming year bring prosperity and limitless possibilities for you and your family.
