Regenerative Medicine for Battlefield Injuries
Purpose:  The purpose of this project is to research species that can regenerate bone and muscle and find applications for human bone and muscle regeneration.

Benefit to the DoD: This project helps to outline a need identified by the military-advancements in regenerative medicine to treat the most common form of battlefield injuries: injuries to the extremities and craniofacial region resulting in the loss of bone and muscle.

Advanced Power Source for Future Soldiers
Purpose:  The purpose of this project is to assist the Army Research Lab in meeting military requirements for the development of a reliable and safe lightweight renewable power source.

Lithium-ion Battery Safety Detection and Control of Impending Failures
Purpose:  The purpose of this project is to assist the US Navy in developing new lithium-ion battery technology for its submarine fleet.
Use to Taxpayer: Improving national security and defense.
Benefit to DoD:  This project will help the US Navy meet the requirement to use lithium-ion batteries, a more energy efficient option than the battery technology they are currently using in their submarine fleet.  By improving the safe use of these batteries in large-scale deployments, lithium-ion batteries will be able to power a greater percentage of US submarines.
