Congressman André Carson, Congressman Danny K. Davis, And Indiana State Representative Bill Crawford Co-host Second Chance Act Forum Moderated by Amos Brown
Indianapolis, IN – On Saturday, April 26th, Congressman André Carson, Congressman Danny K. Davis, and Indiana State Representative Bill Crawford, will participate in a forum on the recent signing into law of the Second Chance Act. The event will start at 1 p.m. and be held at the Forest Manor Multi-Service Center on 5603 E. 38th Street. Veteran broadcaster, Amos Brown, will moderate the panel discussion.
The Second Chance Act allocates $360 million towards a variety of ex-offender reentry programs. One of the main components of the bill is the funding of demonstration projects that will provide ex-offenders with a coordinated continuum of housing, education, health, employment, and mentoring services. This broad array of services seeks to provide stability and make the transition for ex-offenders easier, in turn reducing recidivism.
As a former law enforcement officer who saw first hand how high rates of recidivism can cripple local neighborhoods, Congressman Carson has been a vocal supporter of the Second Chance Act. Congressman Davis, who sponsored and wrote the Second Chance Act, highlighted how “the newly signed law will enhance public safety, reduce recidivism, and save taxpayers millions of dollars.”
