Congressman André Carson to Address Beech Grove Amtrak Workers at Labor Rally

Apr 26, 2008
Press Release

Indianapolis, IN – Today, Congressman André Carson will address Amtrak workers who will be picketing at a rally at the State Capitol on the Market Street steps.  The rally will start at 12 noon and Congressman Carson is expected to address the crowd shortly after the rally begins.

The rally is being conducted to protest Amtrak’s decision to relocate approximately 80 workers from the Beech Grove maintenance facility to facilities in Illinois and Delaware.  Congressman Carson along with Senator Evan Bayh has sent a letter to Amtrak’s President and CEO asking that the rail agency reconsider the proposed work shift.

Congressman Carson believes that shifting 80 jobs from Beech Grove to other facilities impedes efforts to stimulate the economy in central Indiana and needlessly relocates hard working American families who want nothing more then to continue to live and work in the same communities they have been settled in for years.
