Congressman Carson Coordinates Valentines for Veterans
INDIANAPOLIS - In an effort to support our nation's veterans and thank them for their service, the office of U.S. Congressman André Carson (D-IN) delivered over 5,200 Valentine's Day cards prepared by Hoosier school children to veterans across Central Indiana this week.
“We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our veterans who served with honor and sacrificed so much to protect our country,” said Carson. “This is one small way to say thank you. I am pleased so many student volunteers showed their support for our veterans and participated in this year's ‘Valentines for Veterans.’”
The cards were prepared by elementary school students from 33 schools across Indianapolis. This is the 20th year for the “Valentines for Veterans” program, which began under the late Congresswoman Julia Carson.
The program coincides with National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week, which was launched by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to celebrate our veterans during the week of February 14.
