Congressman Carson Statement on CHOICE Act
WASHINGTON, DC – Today Congressman André Carson released the following statement after the House of Representatives voted to pass the Financial CHOICE Act, a bill that dismantles the most important aspects of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
"Today’s vote to repeal provisions of Dodd-Frank is a loss for Hoosiers and for all Americans. With today’s vote, Republicans put Wall Street ahead of hard working Americans, leaving consumers at far greater risk.
"The Financial CHOICE Act is not a responsible choice for consumers. Instead of protecting consumers and promoting financial choices, it takes us back to a marketplace where big banks are permitted to engage in reckless and unfair activities.
"These are many of the same policies that led to the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.Wall Street Reform has improved accountability in the financial system and protected consumers, investors and the economy from abusive practices. We should be protecting and strengthening it, not tearing it apart.”
