Congressman Carson Statement on House Passage of Additional COVID-19 Relief Legislation
Washington, DC -- Congressman André Carson released the following statement on the passage of "The Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act."
"Amid COVID-19's unprecedented damage to Americans' health and our nation's economy, I'm glad Congress was able to work together in a bipartisan manner to pass this additional relief package that replenishes funds for small businesses. This interim package will improve the Paycheck Protection Program to ensure greater access for small businesses who were previously shut out by big lenders, provide robust funding for hospitals and health care workers, and increase our ability to test for COVID-19.
"Many of these improvements negotiated in the bill would not be possible without the advocacy of House Democrats. We worked to make sure the legislation is truly for the people most in need of relief during this difficult time, such as Main Street and the most vulnerable businesses, including minority and women owned companies. Congress must ensure funding and resources are swiftly and efficiently passed along to these Hoosiers and other Americans. Anything less is unacceptable."
"This crisis is far from over, and Congress must do even more to help our fellow Americans survive this storm with their health and their livelihoods intact. Although today’s bill falls short of additional provisions needed to help more workers, plus state and local governments, I am working with my colleagues to craft a bigger and bolder stimulus package that focuses on our economic recovery. But first, we must stop the transmission of COVID-19. We cannot have a healthy economy without healthy people. Now, more than ever, is the time for strong leadership and real results. I vow to keep working together to achieve this.
