Congressman Carson Statement on Supporting Airline Ground Workers
Washington, DC – Congressman André Carson released the following statement on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s Aviation Subcommittee hearing on the issues facing airline ground workers.
“Today’s hearing in Transportation and Infrastructure, the committee on which I serve, highlights the intolerable conditions for airline workers -- from baggage handlers to food prep workers -- at a time of record profits for airlines. These workers deserve living wages and safe, injury free workplaces, but based on what was heard today, we are far from ensuring this. One job should be enough to feed their families, but many are forced to seek additional employment just to make ends meet. I want to thank all who attended the hearing to help shed light on this priority, including Indiana members of Unite Here, a union that is dedicated to supporting these employees. Our committee will continue to be focused and committed to addressing the persistent problems aviation workers face, because aviation safety should always be first - on the ground and in the air.”
