Congressman Carson Votes for Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, Applauds Final Passage

Nov 6, 2021
Press Release

Washington, DC – Congressman Carson applauded the House’s passage of two bills: a rule to advance consideration of the House’s Build Back Better Act, as well as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Both pieces of legislation are cornerstones of President Biden’s and congressional Democrats’ domestic agenda to improve America’s infrastructure and make historic investments in its people.

“Today is a good day for Indiana and for our entire country,” said Congressman Carson. “The House’s advancement of these two pieces of legislation brings us much closer to enacting the bold reforms needed to keep America strong and prosperous well into the 21st Century. These pieces of legislation are the result of months of negotiations and conversations with a variety of stakeholders. Let’s be clear; neither of these bills are perfect. There’s still much more we need to get done to grow our economy, create opportunity for all, reduce inequality, fight the climate crisis, and much more. However, these two pieces of legislation help us make major progress on all of those goals. I am confident the Build Back Better agenda will become law, and when it does, so many lives will change for the better.”

Here are highlights of what The Build Back Better Act achieves:

Lowers Health Care Costs: negotiating lower drug costs forseniors; halting the pharmaceutical companies’ outrageous price hikes above inflation; and expanding the Affordable Care Act to make coverage more affordable for those who buy insurance on their own.

Lowers Child Care & Family Care Costs: expanding the basic promise of free schooling in America for the first time in 100 years with universal pre-school for all 3- and 4-year olds; slashing families’ child care costs; extending the landmark Biden Child Tax Credit; and expanding access to affordable home care for older adults and those with disabilities.

The Largest Investment to Combat Climate Crisis in History: cutting pollution, reducing energy costs, creating good paying jobs with a transformational investment to ensure America leads the clean energy economy.

The Build Back Better Act lowers costs and fights inflation because it is fully paid for by making big corporations and the wealthiest pay their fair share. No one making under $400,000 will pay a penny more in taxes

Here are the highlights of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act:

Repairs Roads and Bridges – with the single largest dedicated bridge investment since the construction of the interstate highway system itself.

Invests in Public Transit & Rail – with the largest investment in public transit and passenger rail since the creation of Amtrak.

Expands Broadband – ensuring every American has access to reliable high-speed internet, all the more critical after COVID.

Secures Clean Water for Our Children – making the largest investment in clean drinking water & waste water infrastructure in American history, replacing lead pipes and delivering clean water to millions of families.
