Press Release

Washington, DC – Congressman André Carson (IN-07), a senior member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, applauded the committee’s approval of funding for significant improvements to the Major General Emmett J. Bean Federal Center in Indianapolis.

In a markup today, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved a resolution for the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Capital Investment and Leasing Program (CILP) that will provide more than $2 million in federal funding to update the Bean Federal Center in Indianapolis. This money will be used to complete critical infrastructure repairs and upgrades to the building’s exterior and window systems, replace the building’s cooling tower, correct the resulting ongoing water infiltration, and to repair the interior.

“I am extremely pleased that the Bean Federal Center will be receiving additional funding for important repairs and upgrades,” Congressman Carson said. “This extraordinary facility has become a landmark in our community, and the work that goes on within its walls is vital to the people of Indianapolis, and to military families across the country and around the world. These upgrades will help improve and advance those important efforts and ensure this facility remains in good condition for years to come.”

The Bean Federal Center is the proud home of the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), which pays all Department of Defense military and civilian personnel, retirees and annuitants, as well as major DoD contractors and vendors. DFAS also supports customers outside the DoD in support of electronic government initiatives. Customers include the Executive Office of the President, the Department of Energy, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Health and Human Services. DFAS processes approximately 137 million pay transactions for 6.6 million people and accounts.
