Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Next Tuesday, February 20, Congressman André Carson (D-IN) will join Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (D-CA), IndyGo President Mike Terry, and other community and business leaders for a ‘Make It In America’ roundtable discussion on our nation’s infrastructure needs and the work being done in Indianapolis.

Congressman Carson is a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and has been a consistent supporter of the ‘Make it in America’ initiative which includes building a 21st century infrastructure.

Democratic Whip Hoyer is visiting Indianapolis on his ‘Make it In America’ listening tour that seeks to hear about economic challenges confronting communities and successful projects that could serve as models in order to develop effective legislation. The listening tour will cross the country over the coming months to hear from Americans about the economic pressures they face and to learn about proven economic initiatives and persistent economic challenges that need to be addressed. The information gathered will be used to further shape the ‘Make It In America’ plan in Congress.

The Democratic Make It In America agenda was launched in 2010 during the depths of the Great Recession. Originally created to strengthen a declining domestic manufacturing sector, the plan has continued to grow and change as the economy has recovered. After a series of hearings in Washington last Congress, the ‘Make It In America’ plan was updated to focus on expanding entrepreneurship and innovation, closing the skills gap, building a 21st century infrastructure, and breaking down barriers to manufacturing in the U.S. Since 2010, 19  Make It In America bills have been signed into law.
