Rep. Carson Speaks Out Against Nomination of Ronald Mortensen
Washington, DC - Recently, Representatives André Carson (IN-07) and Zoe Lofgren (CA-19) led 22 of their colleagues in a letter to Senators, urging them to oppose President Trump’s nomination of Ronald Mortensen to be Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration. The letter states that, at a time of crisis for our nation’s refugee program, Mortensen’s anti-immigrant views and lack of experience make him unqualified for the important role of overseeing the refugee program. The Senate may soon consider Mortensen’s nomination.
“Ronald Mortensen’s writings make it clear that he holds extreme anti-immigrant views,” said Rep. Carson. “As the Trump Administration reportedly considers eliminating this critical office, and with America already slamming the door on many of the world’s most needy, I do not believe he should be overseeing our refugee program. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to oppose him.”
