Rep. Carson Statement on the Beginning of the 117th Congress
Washington, DC – Congressman André Carson (IN-07), the most senior Member of Indiana’s Congressional Delegation, released the following statement on the start of the 117th Congress, which begins today.
“I am extremely pleased to be sworn in to the 117th Congress, and I am profoundly grateful to my friends and neighbors in the 7th District for once again electing me to serve them. It continues to be the greatest honor of my life.
“Alongside my excitement for the beginning of a new Congress, there is also a sadness about the state of our country right now, and our government. We continue to battle a pandemic that has spun out of control, as well as a growing economic crisis. To make matters worse, some of my Congressional colleagues are hampering the incoming Administration’s efforts to address these problems by baselessly opposing President-Elect Biden’s win last November.
“This harmful division and reckless assault on our Democracy cannot continue if we are to make progress in this new era. We must accept the will of the voters, hear their concerns, and deliver the help they need – not only in regards to the current COVID-19 pandemic, but also on health care, jobs, education, civil rights, infrastructure, national security and so much more.
“I am confident that Speaker Pelosi can lead the House of Representatives on these priorities, which is why I voted for her to serve another term as Speaker of the House. I am also looking forward to working closely with the incoming Administration to get things done for Hoosiers and all Americans. As a new year, a new Congress, and a new Presidency begin, let’s put aside the rancor of the past, and commit to acting boldly and collaboratively. I pledge to keep doing everything possible, and reaching across the aisle as much as I can, to achieve this.”
