America COMPETES Act
The America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2010 was denied approval for the second week in a row as Republicans continued to put politics before the best interests of Americans' economic future. This legislation will be a key measure in creating the jobs that will keep our nation the world's leader in research and development. The legislation includes loan guarantees to help small- and medium-sized manufacturers access capital to make necessary updates to become more efficient and stay competitive. It also continues to improve on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) instruction by strengthening and aligning programs across various education levels. I am disappointed that Congress has been unable to move forward on this legislation, but I am confident the opposition will stop playing games and this bill will be approved.
Congratulations Graduating Seniors
On Monday afternoon, I had the distinct pleasure of joining parents and students at the Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School commencement ceremony. I was deeply honored to accept the 2010 Charles A. Tindley Outstanding Leadership Award. I am humbled that the student body - the future leaders of our community - would consider me to be an example to follow. The Class of 2010 has much to be proud of and I have high expectations as they move forward in their education. For my part, I will continue my work in Congress to ensure that higher education remains affordable. Graduates at Tindley, as well as high school seniors throughout Indianapolis, should be focused on which college to attend, not whether they can afford to attend.
