Dear Friend:

This Monday we observe Veterans Day to honor the brave men and women who truly know the meaning of sacrifice—those who courageously fought and are currently fighting for our country and our freedom. We all stand to salute our veterans and thank them for their service.

In 1954, President Eisenhower signed a bill establishing Veterans Day on November 11, calling upon Americans everywhere to rededicate themselves to the cause of peace. Veterans Day allows us to pause in unison to pay our respects to our service men and women. Because of their brave commitment to America, our communities, country and our world is a better place.

It should be our duty to make sure our veterans are taken care of everyday, not just during a single day of recognition. That is why I have authored the Military Suicide Reduction Act, Military Mental Health Empowerment Act, and the Service Members Mental Health Screening Act, all of which improve mental health services available to our service members and help them diagnose and treat devastating mental health issues before returning home. I also authored the Military Families Financial Preparedness Act to help our veterans prepare start civilian life on a stable and well informed financial footing.

It is my privilege to be a champion for veterans in Congress and I will continue to work with my colleagues to support veteran programs. As a member of the Armed Services Committee, I will continue to focus on the needs of our military in Indiana and across the nation—to keep them safe in combat and support them on their return home.

God Bless all of our veterans, past, present and future, and God bless our troops and military families serving today.

Sincerely,
