Dear Friend,

PROTECTING CONSUMERS IN THE FINANCIAL MARKET
Because of a lack of comprehensive oversight, we've seen our financial markets nearly collapse, our economy fall into deep recession, and many of our friends and neighbors spiral toward financial ruin—falling victim to confusing and sometimes fraudulent lending practices,
This week, in an effort to protect Hoosiers consumers across the 7th District, I joined my colleagues on the House Committee on Financial Services in passing legislation to establish the Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA). This new agency would—for the first time—streamline regulation of consumer financial products, like mortgages, credit cards, and pay day loans, and protect people against misleading and fraudulent financial practices. PROMOTING THE RESEARCH AND USE OF SOLAR ENERGY
This week, the House passed the Solar Technology Roadmap Act, a bill which seeks to strengthen the American solar technology industry and promote solar energy use.
This legislation calls for the creation of a Solar Technology Roadmap. This plan will provide the framework for research, testing and production of new solar technologies—technologies that will one day power homes and businesses across the country.
I was proud to support this legislation because it will not only limit greenhouse gas emissions and reduce our dependence on foreign oil, but also because it will enable innovative Hoosiers to create jobs and growth through state-of-the-art green technologies. A number of local research and development companies are already staking their claim as industry leaders. My hope is, this bill can help their efforts and spark even greater innovation in the coming years.
HONORING OUTSTANDING INDIANAPOLIS TEACHERS
Last week, two of Indianapolis' finest teachers, Ed Coleman of North Central High School and Greg Lineweaver of Herron High School, were selected as recipients of the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award. They are two of only fifty-three secondary school educators across the nation to be chosen for their exemplary professionalism, leadership and inspiration in the classroom. Congratulations to Ed Coleman and Greg Lineweaver for this tremendous achievement. The entire Indinanapolis community honors them for their dedication to educating our young people.
Thank you for reading the Carson Courier. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your thoughts and concerns. I value your views and your input which help me to better represent the people of Indiana's 7th District in Congress.
