Support Hurricane Sandy Recovery Efforts
My thoughts go out to the millions of Americans struggling in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. This massive storm disrupted and devastated communities along the eastern seaboard from North Carolina to New England, blanketed folks in West Virginia with more than two feet of snow, and flooded cities as far west as Cleveland. Dozens lost their lives, millions are still without power, and many more are just now beginning to pick up the pieces. On behalf of all those in the 7th District, I want to express my gratitude to our police, firefighters, EMTs, Coast Guard and everyone else who once again put their lives on the line to help those in harm's way. I hope and pray for a speedy recovery to all those affected.

First Annual Carson Community Health Fair
Last week, I had the pleasure of joining the Minority Health Coalition of Marion County to present the first annual Carson Community Health Fair. This wonderful event provided free health screenings and educational workshops. It also provided an opportunity to discuss the improvements enacted under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to enhance preventive care and lower long-term health care costs.
As your Representative in Congress, improving public health and reducing the cost of health care are some of my highest priorities. To date, more than 54 million Americans have benefitted from the free preventive health care services established under the ACA. In the 7th District alone, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been allocated to local community health centers like [the Jane Pauley Community Health Center and the Healthnet Southeast Health Center.] Rest assured, I will continue to work with my colleagues here in Washington to improve access to health care for all Americans.
