Happy Thanksgiving -- November 22, 2012
November 26, 2012
Dear Friends:
Almost 150 years ago, President Abraham Lincoln issued a historic proclamation calling for "A National Day of Thanksgiving and Praise." At the time, America was in the midst of the Civil War. Families and communities had been torn apart, and our nation was severely divided.
This iconic President saw great promise in a holiday that would promote unity, reflection, and gratitude. He wanted Thanksgiving to serve as a reminder of our nation's unlikely beginnings and inspire future generations of Americans to work together.
All these years later, we honor that legacy and gather together with family and friends to celebrate the many blessings our nation affords us. As you sit down at the table this year, I encourage you to remember the brave men and women of our Armed Forces, who sacrifice this time with family in order to protect the freedoms we hold dear. And I also urge you to be mindful of those less fortunate during this holiday season.
On behalf of my wife, Mariama, and my daughter, Salimah, I wish you and your family a very safe and Happy Thanksgiving. May God bless you and yours.
Sincerely,
