Honesty in Education
This week, I introduced the Higher Education and Employment Transparency Act, a bill which offers prospective and current college students more information as they make decisions regarding which school to attend. This bill will require the Department of Education and all institutions receiving federal student aid to provide up-to-date employment statistics, including data that shows which majors are leading to the most job opportunities.
College-bound individuals often face a difficult question when they ask themselves if further education is a wise investment. With this bill, my goal is to give students access to all the information they need to make an informed decision on their futures and to choose the school that will best help them reach their career goals.
To further the debate on education, I've also announced the creation of the Congressional Higher Education Caucus, which I hope will allow Members of Congress to come together and discuss real solutions to the problems facing today's students. I hope this venue will encourage open, honest discussions across both sides of the aisle on these critical issues.

Oasis for Food Deserts
I've also introduced this week the Preserving Healthy Food for the Hungry Act, a bill which will help low-income families better access locally produced fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, many under privileged families live in what are known as ‘food deserts,' communities that have limited access to well-stocked supermarkets and grocery stores. Families living in these areas frequently rely on fast food restaurants and snack foods as their main diet, which are often high in calories and lacking any nutritious value.
Many studies have shown that children who rely on unhealthy diets are more likely to suffer from obesity and obesity related diseases, such as Type-2 Diabetes, which can lead to dramatically decreased life expectancies. This bill will provide local farms, cooperatives, and urban gardens in these underserved communities access to state-of-the-art quick and flash freezing equipment so that their harvest can be enjoyed by low-income families throughout the year.

School Visit
Congressman Carson visited Christel House Academy in Indianapolis earlier this week to meet with school leadership, discuss their academic progress, and observe several classrooms. Click below to see pictures from the Congressman's visit.
