Central Indiana Job Fair
In today's highly competitive job market, meeting face to face with employers can give job seekers a significant advantage. That's why I'm hosting the Central Indiana Job Fair, in cooperation with Ivy Tech Community College.

The job fair will take place Wednesday, August 25th from 9 AM to 3 PM at IUPUI's Campus Center in Downtown Indianapolis. The event is free and will provide an opportunity to speak with a diverse group of companies from various sectors that are looking to hire new employees here in Central Indiana.

For more details on the event, please call my office at (317) 283-6516 or click here to register.

Supporting Funding for IndyGo Buses
IndyGo offers a vital lifeline to thousands of local residents by providing an affordable means of public transit throughout Indianapolis. Without it, many could not get to work, visit their doctor's office or go to the grocery store. That's why I've been working hard over the last year to help IndyGo secure $1 million in funding for new, more efficient buses. This funding was included in the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which the House voted to pass last month. With this funding, IndyGo will be better able to maintain existing routes and keep prices low for riders. Over the next few months, I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to ensure that this funding remains in the appropriations bill as it makes it to the President's desk for his signature.

HIRE Act Helps Create Over 173,000 Jobs in Indiana
Our ongoing recession has not only caused thousands of Hoosiers to lose their jobs, but has also prevented struggling businesses from hiring new workers. As a result, our state's unemployment rate has hovered near 10 percent for months.

To get those who have been unemployed for eight weeks or longer back to work, the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act provided targeted tax breaks to businesses that hire jobless individuals. I was proud to vote for the HIRE Act earlier this year and was pleased to read a recent Treasury Department report that Indiana is among the top ten states to benefit from this important legislation. As a direct result of the HIRE Act, over 173,000 jobs were created in Indiana. While we still have a long way to go before our economy fully recovers, this is yet another sign that recovery is underway in our state.
