Nearly 3,000 People Attend Central Indiana Job Fair
On Wednesday, I hosted the Central Indiana Job Fair in cooperation with Ivy Tech Community College at IUPUI's Campus Center in downtown Indianapolis. The turnout by employers and jobseekers was tremendous. With more than 90 companies participating-representing thousands of job opportunities-the event attracted up to 3,000 attendees. These jobseekers had an opportunity to meet face-to-face with Central Indiana employers from a wide variety of sectors. While many local Hoosiers have been struggling to find work over the last year, the success of this job fair clearly shows that many local firms are turning the corner, creating jobs and investing in the workforce.

Welcoming Veterans at the VFW National Convention
This week, I had the pleasure of speaking at the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Convention, which was hosted this year in our great city. It was a privilege to have so many veterans that have fought and sacrificed for this country in Indianapolis for this wonderful event. It also gave me an opportunity to speak candidly to our veterans about the steps that this Congress and President Obama have taken to provide better health care, education and housing services through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
I believe that how we treat our veterans is a direct reflection of our nation's values. I look forward to working with President Obama and my colleagues in Congress to ensure our veterans come home to the services and care they deserve-not a system mired in bureaucratic red tape. Our work is far from over, but this convention gave us an opportunity to discuss the progress that has been made and the steps that still need to be taken on behalf of our veteran community.

New Credit Card Rules Protect Consumers
Earlier this year, I voted to bring an end to dishonest and unfair credit card company policies through the Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights. On August 22, provisions went into effect that require credit card companies to ensure that the fees and interest rate hikes charged to consumers are reasonable. Such protections will save American consumers billions of dollars each year.

For individual households in the 7th district, these changes will amount to hundreds of dollars in savings. The Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights marked a milestone in the move to make credit cards safer, transparent and more fair for consumers and I look forward to seeing its positive impact on our communities in the near future.
