The 3rd Annual Central Indiana Job Fair
Despite marked economic improvement and 29 consecutive months of private sector job growth, too many Hoosiers are still out of work. In Marion County, unemployment remains above 8% and tens of thousands of our residents are still looking for jobs.
We need results now, and that is why I am honored to host my 3rd Annual Central Indiana Job Fair in cooperation with Ivy Tech Community College. This one-day event is a great opportunity for Hoosier job-seekers to connect with numerous employers from a number of different fields. With Ivy Tech's help, we've assembled 75 employers who represent over 1,000 available positions, and they are looking to hire folks just like you.
Please join us Tuesday, August 7th, from 9:00AM to 3:00PM at Ivy Tech's Illinois Fall Creek Center at 2535 North Capitol Avenue for this year's Central Indiana Job Fair.

Proposed Tax Cuts to Help the Middle Class
As we enter the dog days of August, I recognize many American families remain anxious about our economic recovery. The last thing American families need is a tax increase. That's why I joined House Democrats this week in putting forward legislation that will ensure that 98% of Americans and 97% of small businesses earning up to $250,000 a year avoid a tax increase next January.
Unfortunately, Republican leadership refuses to support this common sense tax relief initiative. House Republicans are now holding hostage middle class tax cuts in order to protect the top 2% of American income earners. This partisan obstructionism is expected to cost the U.S. economy an estimated one trillion dollars and is likely to discourage economic growth.
I call upon my Republican colleagues to work with me and my fellow Democrats to find bipartisan solutions that will benefit the vast majority of American families by stimulating job creation, lowering taxes, and enhancing certainty for American families and businesses.

A New Day for Women's Preventive Care
Last Wednesday, another provision in the Affordable Care Act went into effect requiring health insurance providers to provide free preventive services to women. This is another huge win for at least 47 million women who now will have access to high quality and affordable preventive care.
Before the Affordable Care Act, many health insurance programs discouraged women from accessing preventive care by either not covering critical screenings or charging high co-payments. After the passage of this landmark legislation, many women now benefit from preventive care that lowers their long term health care costs.

Severe Drought Continues in Central Indiana
Throughout Indiana, drought has caused water shortages in all 92 counties. In Central Indiana, local farmers are facing one of the worst droughts in over half a century. That is why I strongly supported the Agricultural Disaster Assistance Act this week to bring immediate relief to farmers in the 7th District, Central Indiana and throughout the United States.
