Dear Friend:

Thank you for reading another edition of my e-newsletter, the Carson Courier. For additional information on these and other topics, please visit my website at /.

In this week's Carson Courier:

  • Big Win for Democracy
  • Wishing Coach Pagano a Speedy Recovery
Our Economy is on the Rise
This week, the Labor Department announced in its jobs report great news about our economic recovery. The unemployment rate has dropped to 7.8 percent—its lowest level since January 2009. In September, 114,000 jobs were created, marking thirty-one straight months of private sector job creation.
It is also a milestone in our economic recovery. At the height of the Great Recession in January 2009, 4.3 million jobs had been lost. Over the past three years, 4.5 million jobs have been created.
With thousands of Hoosiers still looking for work, I realize we've still got a ways to go. That's why I am committed to working with my colleagues, Republicans and Democrats, to pass crucial job-creating legislation like the American Jobs Act and the Make It in America agenda. Thousands of jobs also would be created by making smart investments in building and repairing roads, bridges, highways and railways all across the United States. I remain fully committed to passing commonsense legislation to ensure that we remain on the path of sustained economic recovery.

Big Win for Democracy
I believe no eligible voter should be denied the right to vote so I want to encourage all Americans to register to vote and cast a ballot on November 6.
This week, a Pennsylvania judge ruled the state's controversial, new voter identification law could not go into effect until after the upcoming election. This ruling, following a recent decision by a federal court to strike down a similar law in Texas, is yet another victory in the fight to protect our constitutional right to vote.
Voter identification laws disproportionately affect our seniors, young people and minorities at a crucial moment in our nation's history. This is why I support solutions like the Voter Empowerment Act, which will protect early voting, enhance voter registration, and guarantee fair ballot access. We need to ensure that all eligible Americans can have their voices heard on Election Day.
For more information about the candidates, your polling location and other useful tips, I highly recommend you download the official voter registration app on my website.
Wishing Coach Pagano a Speedy Recovery
I was saddened to hear that Indianapolis Colts Coach Chuck Pagano had been recently diagnosed with leukemia. I speak for Colts fans everywhere in wishing him the very best during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Pagano, his family and friends.
