$1 million to IndyGo.

IndyGo buses keep our city moving. That’s why I’ll continue to fight for federal dollars to important public transit projects like the Red Line, Blue Line, and Purple Line.

Today, I was proud to join IndyGo leadership to highlight $1 million in federal Community Project Funding for the Blue Line and reiterate my support for public transit. Each year, Members of Congress submit Community Project Funding requests to the House Appropriations Committee for a select number of qualified projects benefiting their districts. This year, I secured funding for 14 projects across Indianapolis, including the Blue Line.

Our community has needed expanded public transit for years but has lacked the funding to make that vision a reality. Now, we’re making sure every Indianapolis resident can access every corner of our city safely and efficiently. Our city belongs to everyone, and IndyGo is expanding opportunity to all Indianapolis residents -- all while providing much-needed safety and infrastructure improvements.

As a senior Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I’ve consistently advocated for expanded public transit, including through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – which will direct $1.2 trillion of federal funds towards transportation, energy, and climate infrastructure projects and create good-paying jobs. To date, $4.7 billion has been announced for Indiana project involving roads, bridges, public transit, ports, airport, electric school and transit buses, EV charging, and more. Last year, IndyGo received $19 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to purchase 40-foot, diesel-electric, hybrid buses to replace older buses in its fleet.

More details about the $1 million Community Project Funding investment can be found below:

Project Name: Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation Blue Line Infrastructure

Award Amount: $1,000,000

Project Description: The funding would be used to improve a high-performing transit route that connects the Indianapolis International Airport, Downtown Indianapolis, and diverse neighborhoods. The project will replace deficient stormwater infrastructure and pavement, and introduce dedicated bus lanes that will improve speed, reliability, and safety. Funds will support stormwater construction of the Pleasant Run and Pogues Run outfalls and includes 2-5’ diameter trunk sewer. The funds will pay for infrastructure to reduce flooding events, which will improve public health and safety. The existing deficient combined sewer system will be replaced with a modern separated sewer system and detention sites.

Financial Literacy Month:

April is Financial Literacy Month – and I have a bill to advance financial literacy for American families. My bill, the Young Americans Financial Literacy Act, will develop financial literacy programs for young people. Most schools don’t teach you about credit, how to open a bank account, or how to save for a home or a rainy-day fund. Our young people are going out into the world, earning their first paychecks, applying for student aid, and establishing financial independence. We need to prepare young people as best we can.

With financial literacy, we can empower young people with the information they need to succeed. Learn more about my bill here.
