The Best Option - Getting People Back to Work -- February 8, 2013
February 13, 2013
A Note from Congressman Carson

Dear Friend:
We can all agree that reducing our budget deficit is one of our nation's most pressing issues. The key, however, is doing so in a balanced way that will strengthen the economy, grow the middle class, and lay the foundation for long term job growth. Under President Obama's leadership, we have already trimmed $2.5 trillion from the deficit, but there is still plenty of work to do.
I agree that we should continue to cut spending and eliminate tax loopholes for the wealthy, but we must realize that we cannot simply cut our way to prosperity. That is why I believe the best and most equitable way to trim the deficit is to do all we can to put people back to work. Democrats have put forth the "Make It in America Plan,"legislation that supports job creation today and in the future by encouraging businesses to innovate and manufacture their products in the U.S. Through these efforts, we can get our nation's fiscal house in order while ensuring that every American has the opportunity to find a good paying job.
Thanks for staying in touch, and rest assured, I'll keep fighting for you.
Best,
André
The Inside Scoop
Sequestration
Congress is quickly approaching a critical March 1st deadline, a date on which automatic, across-the-board cuts will take place for both domestic and defense spending. While our federal government must find ways to cut spending, sequestration lacks the necessary precision to protect our economic recovery and our working families. Under these cuts, kids will lose access to Head Start programs, hunger prevention programs will lose resources, there will be fewer food safety inspections, and fewer mentally ill adults will receive the treatment they need.
The consequences of these actions are too great. President Obama has put forth a plan that would cut an additional $4 trillion from the deficit, and there has been bipartisan agreement on elements of his proposal. Congress must come together to find a solution.
