Broken commitments.
Despite the bipartisan budget deal between the President and Speaker last month, at least 750,000 Americans could lose food assistance in the new Agriculture Appropriations funding bill proposed by the misguided House majority -- primarily toddlers, preschoolers, and postpartum mothers. Extremists have driven the House majority to break the agreement they made with the President and make cruel cuts in nutrition assistance for those who desperately need help.
Feeding our nation’s children should not be up for debate. These proposed cuts are unacceptable.
Extremist Republicans are once again holding our government hostage with unreasonable demands that will hurt millions of American families. Unfortunately, fighting within the extremist Republican majority has prevented Congress from moving forward on an FY24 Agriculture Appropriations bill.
The American people deserve a government that works – not one that stalls out due to partisan infighting and threats over who can claim the most extreme position. Attacks on annual funding for nutrition assistance programs like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs (SNAP) and Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Programs could drive states to take measures to restrict enrollment in these programs and block out families who need this assistance.
Countless families in my district rely on these programs to put food on the table. In Indiana, these cuts would leave 16,900 individuals without food assistance and would cut fruit and vegetable benefits from 111,300 individuals.
No one deserves to go to bed hungry in the richest nation on earth. When Congress reconvenes in September, I’ll work to protect lifesaving programs like SNAP and WIC from devastating cuts.
Coming Soon - Job and Resource Fair
My job fair is just a week away – and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The U.S. is experiencing record job creation, with over 13 million jobs created since the start of Joe Biden’s presidency. Plus, new numbers show our GDP grew at a rate of 2.4% last quarter – greater than even experts predicted. Inflation is also decreasing, significantly below its peak in June of last year. I’ll keep working to keep increasing wages and job opportunities.
Join me on Tuesday, August 8 at the Ivy Tech Culinary and Conference Center at 2820 N. Meridian St. from 11:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. Whether you’re currently unemployed or looking for a better job, this is the event for you. This event is FREE and no pre-registration is required. Learn more here.
Success Story of the Week:
“I am pleased and very grateful to your staff, Congressman Carson. They were really helpful with resolving my U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services case. I hope you continue helping other immigrants like myself.”
