The climate crisis.

You only need to step outside to realize climate change isn’t just a problem for future generations. It’s here now.

June was Earth’s hottest year on record, and the heat wave was caused or made worse due to climate change. Catastrophic floods are hitting the Hudson valley this summer. And in Indianapolis, we’ve experienced smoky days that make working or spending time outside virtually impossible, especially for those with conditions like asthma.

It’s a serious issue, but there are ways we can mitigate this crisis. The Biden administration and House Democrats have already passed policies that will guide us towards a cleaner, greener future. But we need your help – we must keep applying pressure on leaders and elected officials to give this issue the immediate attention it deserves.

Here’s what we’ve been able to accomplish so far:

  • Lower-Cost, Cleaner Energy: The Inflation Reduction Act lowers energy costs for consumers and small businesses while From making home weatherization and efficiency upgrades, to installing new electric appliances, to purchasing an electric vehicle or rooftop solar system, the Inflation Reduction Act will help cover the costs and save you money each month on your bills. Learn more about what programs you can benefit from here.

  • Historic Investments in Clean Energy: The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law isn’t just a job creator – it’s the largest investment in clean energy in our nation’s history. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law allots more than $62 billion to deliver a more equitable clean energy future. We can help America’s clean energy economy and manufacturing sectors grow. This is good for our planet, but it also helps hardworking American families find work, now and in the future.

  • Greenhouse Gas Reduction and Solar for All Grant Funding: Last week, the Environmental Protection Agency announced a $20 BILLION investment in pollution-reducing projects. Two Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund grant competitions will deliver tangible benefits for communities across the country. This announcement builds on the Solar for All program, which will lower energy costs for everyday Americans while also helping our environment. Low-income households can benefit from affordable, resilient, and clean solar energy. With 60 grants to states, territories, Tribal governments, municipalities, and eligible nonprofits to create and expand low-income solar programs that provide financing and technical assistance, we can help low-income and disadvantaged communities to deploy and benefit from residential solar.

Strengthening Aviation:

For years, I have worked with leaders like Ellen Saracini – whose pilot husband, Victor, perished in the 9/11 attacks – to implement a simple but effective safety measure. Secondary cockpit barriers have been shown to improve pilot safety, and in 2018, my amendment passed requiring secondary cockpit barriers on new aircraft – but FAA still hasn’t implemented these requirements. Now, my amendment mandating secondary cockpit barriers in ALL aircrafts has passed out of the House and is on its way to the Senate. If passed, my amendment could save lives, while honoring those who so tragically perished on 9/11.

This amendment was part of the Federal Aviation Act reauthorization, which I proudly voted for. Aviation is critical to Indianapolis – home to an airport that is once again receiving international attention – and our nation’s entire economy. I’ll keep fighting for ways to strengthen and diversify the aviation workforce and ensure America’s skies are the safest, most efficient in the world.

Success Story of the Week:

“As kids get older, our trips together are an important part of the fabric of our family and making memories we will have for a lifetime. Thank you, Congressman Carson, for making sure we did not have to cancel that trip this year by helping advocate for us with the State Department.”
