Cracking down on junk fees.
We’ve all been there. You go to complete a purchase – whether it’s a concert ticket, a hotel room, renting a car, or even your monthly cable bill – and there’s a surprise fee at the end of your transaction, but it’s not clear exactly what it’s for. They’re called junk fees, and the Biden-Harris administration is cracking down on them.
Junk fees include extra charges at banks, ATMs, cell phone bills, rent applications, flights, and even hospital or medical facilities, and they can cost working families hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars a year.
These fees often appear at the end of a transaction – but weren’t disclosed previously – or are buried in fine print. They’re unclear and predatory, and President Biden and House Democrats are making their elimination a top priority.
Bidenomics is about creating jobs, stimulating the economy, and lowering out-of-pocket costs to make our country work better for everyone. I’ll always fight to lower costs for everyday, hardworking Hoosier families. It’s not fair for corporations raking in record profits to take advantage of consumers with hidden junk fees, plain and simple. With support from House Democrats, the Biden Administration has already taken swift action to rein in ticketing fees, medical fees, and supported the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as they go after these fees in banking and more.
Have you been personally affected by junk fees? I want to hear from you. Please let me know how these unfair fees have impacted you and your family:

Job & Resource Fair Recap:
My annual Job & Resource Fair with Ivy Tech was a success! Over 300 attendees were able to explore job opportunities, resume help, and job interview prep from more than 90 vendors representing Indianapolis employers and organizations. Job creation in the U.S. is up, and unemployment is at the lowest it’s been in over 50 years. Yet we know that some are still unemployed and too many are underemployed – so I want to make sure every Indianapolis resident can access economic opportunities. It’s important that every family can build a better life with a good-paying job, good benefits, and a satisfying, meaningful career.
Missed this year’s job fair? Don’t worry! If you need help finding a job or are looking to be connected to resources, don’t hesitate to contact my office at 317-283-6516.
