A Note from Congressman Carson

Dear Friend:

After taking office, some members of Congress pack up their things and move out to Washington, D.C. For me, that never made sense. Every week, I come back home to Indianapolis. I'm fighting for Hoosiers, and it's this community that is at the center of my work in Congress.

This week was no different. I've been all over our great city, talking with constituents and doing everything I can to keep us moving forward. I was honored to participate in the grand opening of 37 Place in Martindale-Brightwood, the Community Health Network/Wishard-Eskenazi Partnership Announcement, and just yesterday, Congressman Larry Bucshon (IN-8) and I hosted the 2013 Transportation Job Fair to match jobseekers with over 35 Central Indiana employers.

This week, I also met with the brave men and women of the Indiana National Guard at Camp Atterbury to discuss how we can keep supporting service members and their families during potential, sweeping budget cuts.

This is what I do every week - work for you on the job in D.C. and back home in Indiana. I'm a Hoosier, and that's something I'll never forget.

Best,

The Inside Scoop

Congressman Carson in the News

Our View: Working together to get Hoosiers back to work | Indy Star

While we do not always agree on how best to address our nation's challenges, we, as members of Congress, fully understand that getting Hoosiers back to work should be our number one priority. As Indiana's only representatives on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, we also agree that creating employment opportunities by using our state's vast transportation industry will improve our economy and provide a better quality of life for every Hoosier.

Indianapolis charity unveils $4 million community center on Near Northeastside | Indy Star

"Over the years, Martindale Brightwood has faced its fair share of struggles, but this resilient community has never stopped fighting its way back," Carson said in a news release. "37 Place is yet another chapter in this remarkable comeback story, providing a community center and gathering place worthy of this historic neighborhood and the incredible people who call it home."

Community Health Network, Wishard-Eskenazi Health Agree to Launch Landmark Partnership | Eskenazi Health

"This partnership is a welcomed development for public health in Central Indiana, creating enhanced access to care and providing valuable services to the most vulnerable and underserved in our community," said U.S. Rep. André Carson. "Eskenazi Health and Community Health Network represent a formidable collaboration, both committed to missions of improving the quality of care and working together to pursue innovations that make public health a priority in Indianapolis. I look forward to their efforts."

Sequestration to Hit Indiana Employees

The March 1st deadline for sequestration is quickly approaching, giving Congress just one week to address the automatic, across-the-board spending cuts that will affect both domestic and defense spending. The severe cost of these cuts – losing more than 2 million working class jobs, 70,000 children getting kicked out of Head Start programs, $120 million in reductions for first responder grants – will be felt by all. According to a recent study by George Mason University, Indiana alone is expected to lose over 23,000 jobs if these irresponsible cuts are put in place.

Transportation Job Fair

Congressman André Carson and Congressman Larry Bucshon joined forces this week to host the 2013 Transportation Job Fair at Ivy Tech's Illinois Fall Creek Center. The job fair brought together more than 35 employers offering close to 500 transportation-related positions throughout Central Indiana. For photos from the event, click the image below.
