Impeachment.
I voted twice before to impeach Donald Trump.
Now, it’s past time to hold the president accountable for a third time, especially when his latest unconstitutional actions could drag our country into a war the American people don’t want.
Last Tuesday, a procedural vote related to impeachment was very quickly brought to the House floor before Members could properly review the text. I cast an initial vote to allow Members more time to review the measure. Now that I’ve been able to carefully review this resolution, I support it.
I am proud to be the very first cosponsor of H. Res. 537 to impeach Donald Trump.
I’ve been fighting back against the Trump presidency with legislation, litigation, and activism. We’ve had some victories, nationally and locally: Trump’s DOGE waffled on its short-sighted decision to close the Minton Capehart Building in downtown Indianapolis, which serves thousands at their Social Security field office. I’ve cosponsored legislation and spoken against the illegal and unethical attempts to fire federal workers – and now the Trump administration is being forced to rehire workers. I’ve joined 8 amicus briefs to fight back against Donald Trump in the courts.
It’s time to act now, with one of the most serious and sacred tools we have to remove Donald Trump from office: impeachment.
President Trump has endangered American troops, Americans at home, and innocent civilians abroad – unconstitutionally and unnecessarily. As a Senior Member of the House Intel Committee, I understand that war actions should never be used for political theater. Striking Iran when the U.S. was not already directly involved in military confrontation puts countless lives at risk. It also ignores what our Founding Fathers established to ensure the executive branch cannot rule like a king.
I won’t pretend this path is easy. We need Republican support for impeachment to pass the House and the Senate. We need to make a clear, convincing case to demonstrate what we already know: Donald Trump is unfit to serve as President and Commander in Chief.
It’s a challenge, but more importantly, it’s a duty. I am honored to carry out my duty to protect democracy, preserve the balance of justice, and promote a country we can be proud of.
