May’s jobs report is in. Spoiler: it’s more good news.
Last month, the U.S. created 272,000 new jobs. That brings the running total to 15 million new jobs in the last four years – 3 million more than was previously predicted.
This job growth is no accident.
Under Democratic leadership, the House of Representatives passed several groundbreaking bills that were enacted to boost our economy following the lingering, devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
That includes the CHIPS and Science Act, which has boosted domestic manufacturing, strengthened American supply chains, and created good-paying jobs – right here in America.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has also fueled our economic growth. I championed this monumental law in my role on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Tens of thousands of new projects have broken ground across the country, with Indiana getting its fair share. That’s resulted in a stronger domestic manufacturing base.
Another signal of a strong economic future for our country? Record low unemployment rates. Unemployment has sat at or below 4% since December of 2021, the longest streak in more than 50 years.
But we still have more work to do to make sure everyone gets their fair share of that economic success, especially those historically underserved or left out of opportunities. That's why I’m hosting my annual Job and Resource Fair on Tuesday, August 6 from 10am – 2pm at the Ivy Tech Culinary and Conference Center. We’ll have vendors with job opportunities, plus help to build your resume, prepare for interviews, and enhance your current skills or develop new skills. Whether you’re looking for a first job or a better job, there’s something for everyone.
