Making neighborhoods safer.
Last week, I joined Citizens Energy and local and national leaders to break ground on a new project to upgrade nearly five miles of a natural gas pipeline in Indianapolis.
This multi-year project will address an aged, leak-prone pipeline that runs throughout the east side. It’s all thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which I was proud to vote for and champion, and is the most significant investment in our nation's infrastructure in more than half a century.

This transformational law is already delivering billions of dollars to infrastructure projects that will make a difference in your day-to-day life. From sidewalk repair to pedestrian safety improvements, to energy-saving projects like this one, nearly every corner of our city, state, and country will be impacted.
But why is this project so important?
For one, gas pipeline leaks are dangerous. If there is a leak or rupture in a gas line, it can lead to an explosion that can cause significant damage and harm to people and property nearby. Even slow leaks or small emissions can be harmful to health, especially over time. Addressing aging pipelines BEFORE ruptures or problems arise is crucial, but without federal funding, these overdue improvements can be delayed or neglected.
Your safety is non-negotiable – and that’s why I pushed so hard for these upgrades.
Second, these improvements will have a measurable impact on the environment. In total, this program is estimated to reduce nearly 1,400 metric tons of methane pollution emissions. That’s huge. The negative impacts of climate change and pollution are real, and they’re happening in communities across the country. Oftentimes it is lower-income, minority neighborhoods that are the most impacted by the harmful effects of pollution, including related health issues like asthma. Addressing gas line pollution is key to healthy, safe, and pollution-free neighborhoods.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, these improvements will save you money on your monthly energy bills. The repair of legacy pipes can come at additional costs to taxpayers – but thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, customers won’t have that burden.

Success Story of the Week:
We were able to help this Indy resident access her Social Security benefits! Hear what she had to say:
“I feel seen. I am so grateful and honored for all the help. I feel heard. It means more than I can say. I’m so thankful and honored to have been part of a historical decision and so grateful to Congressman Carson and Mr. Bochnicka for all of the time and effort put in on my family’s behalf. Thank you.”
