Each year, I fight to bring federal funding directly to Indianapolis organizations making a positive impact on our community. This program, called Community Project Funding, has helped our roads, our public transit, our schools, and our families.

This year, I’m proud to announce securing $10 million to worthy projects throughout Indianapolis. Our city is full of individuals and organizations making a difference – and this funding will boost their efforts and shape a stronger, more equitable place for all.

Here’s a look at where this new funding is going:

Youth Services:

To address systemic issues like poverty, crime, job preparedness, and more, we must start with our youth. That’s why I’m proud to provide funding to 4 projects supporting the next generation of Indianapolis. $250,000 to the Bloom Project will empower justice-involved youth and help them develop the skills they need to prevent recidivism, and $300,000 to the Boys and Girls Club’s STEM program will provide STEM education and afterschool programming to children living in poverty.

In addition, $850,000 for improvements to the John H. Boner Center Rivoli Building will establish a community serving space at the rehabilitated building, providing a hub for youth to develop their talents and education, job training, anti-abuse initiatives and counseling. And $219,000 towards rehabilitation of the Fathers and Families Center building will allow the organization to continue serving as a workforce training center and serve Indianapolis families. It takes a village to raise children, and the help of local organizations is key to that village.

P.S. – Speaking of youth, my 2024 Youth Opportunities Fair was a success! We served nearly 400 Indianapolis young people and connected them to summer jobs, afterschool activities, and more. Didn’t make it? Call my office at 317-283-6516 or send me an email.

Crime Prevention:

Indianapolis crime rates are decreasing, in large part thanks to investments in community-based, targeted efforts and an influx of federal funds I fought to bring to Indianapolis. Now, we’re bringing more funding, including with $963,000 for the Indy Peace Fellowship Program. This program helps those most at risk of becoming victims or perpetrators of violence to receive one-on-one life coaching, mentorship, educational and job prep opportunities, and ultimately a new lease on life. Justice is also essential as we talk about crime prevention. That’s why we’re also holding guilty individuals accountable with $963,000 towards a public safety camera program and $214,000 to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

Infrastructure:

Democrats have made it our goal to remove all dangerous lead from our drinking water systems. With $1 million towards lead service line replacement, we’re one step closer to delivering on that promise. This funding package also includes $850,000 to reconstruct Market Street and continue Downtown Indy’s resurgence, $1.3 million for the Mars Hill Flood Control Improvement District, and $500,000 for the Indianapolis International Airport to keep our rating as one of the best airports in North America.

I’ll also keep advocating for the IndyGo Blue Line and public transit in Indianapolis. This includes securing another $1 million to expand Blue Line Infrastructure. Plus, I fought to include additional Blue Line Funding in President Biden’s budget for Fiscal Year 2025 and will keep going until this new line is up and running across Indianapolis.

Housing:

Our seniors deserve safe, affordable housing. The Pathway Resource Center’s Grassy Creek Development and Senior Housing Community will not only deliver on housing, but will also feature a grocery on the ground floor with this new with $1,050,000 in funding. In addition, a project to redevelop Sherman Park will receive $850,000 to spur economic development and affordable housing for formerly incarcerated individuals.

The full list of projects and their amounts can be found here.

Success Story of the Week:

“I am a service coordinator at Farrell-Bell Senior Housing. Congressman Carson’s staff assisted a resident. In early September, they filed for a widow’s benefit, and the representative at Social Security shared that she would be receiving back pay benefits in the next 60 days. She continued to follow up with the Social Security office every other week. It was not until contacting Congressman Carson’s office that the resident received her widow back pay benefits. The resident reported being thankful to the staff at Congressman Carson’s office for assisting her. As the service coordinator here at Farrell-Bell Senior Housing, I have contacted Congressman Carson’s office to assist me on several occasions for the residents. I would like to thank you and I appreciate how your office advocates for our residents.”
