Redistricting Update

Right now, Hoosier voices in Congress are under threat.

81% of Hoosiers believe redistricting should be done fairly, according to a poll from Count US IN. Many of our own statehouse leaders have courageously spoken out against this premature and unbalanced move. But after a meeting in DC, some have backtracked on their position.

What Is Redistricting?

The Constitution mandates that every 10 years, the government conducts a census to count how many people live in each state and city. These numbers are used to “draw” Congressional districts according to population changes each decade – so everyone is counted and represented fairly. In Indiana, we currently have nine Congressional districts. Two of these seats are held by Democrats, and seven are held by Republicans.

Some legislatures have drawn districts in an unbalanced way that puts one party at an advantage over another – that includes Indiana. Our districts are ALREADY manipulated.

Now, Trump is supporting a plan to redraw our Congressional maps five years to create more Republican districts, giving the extreme right more power. Whatever issue matters to you – from sidewalks, to high energy bills, to healthcare, to our schools – your voice deserves to be heard and respected.

This isn’t about one party. This is about Hoosier values of fairness and independence. We don’t like being pushed around, especially by Washington insiders. Redistricting should concern every Hoosier, regardless of party – because it’s an attempt to silence your vote and your voice.

What You Can Do:

We need every Hoosier to make their voice heard. Call your state legislators. Call the governor’s office. Tell them that you won’t stand for this blatant power grab.

We can’t let Indiana be handed over to Washington insiders and political bullies. The future of our democracy depends on what we do next.
