Social Security Turns 89
This week, Social Security turned 89. For decades, Social Security has been a sacred promise that you deserve to retire with dignity. Unfortunately, while I’m working with my Democratic colleagues to strengthen Social Security, Republicans released a 2025 budget that would raise the retirement age and cut benefits. According to an analysis by the House Budget Committee minority, Republican proposals would cut benefits for 257 million Americans, including more than 600,000 people in our district alone.
As your member of Congress, I will always fight to protect your hard-earned benefits. Social Security is a sacred promise that keeps tens of millions of seniors out of poverty. American workers have paid into Social Security with every paycheck, and they deserve to retire with dignity after a lifetime of hard work.
Every Hoosier deserves the Social Security benefits they’ve earned, and for these benefits to adequately meet their needs. That’s what I’m fighting for – today and every day.
