We can’t default on our debt.
Friend,
Most Americans are aware: if you owe money, you need to pay it.
Unfortunately, Republicans are currently pushing the United States towards a default by threatening not to pay our bills without severe cuts to lifesaving, essential programs. If they are successful, the results would be devastating for everyday Americans.
Here’s what’s happening: Republicans are standing on a fiscal cliff and threatening to drop the U.S. economy over the edge, unless they can cut 22% of funding for programs that families need to survive.
This would be a terrible deal for the American people, where nobody wins. Either they wreck the economy, or they inflict cruel cuts that hurt everyday Americans.
Either way, the results would be catastrophic.
Option one? Wreck the economy by causing the U.S. to default on our debt and plunge our country into a recession, which would result in 7 million people losing their jobs, up to $10 trillion in household wealth and retirement savings wiped out, seniors and people with disabilities missing Social Security payments, and more. This will also destroy the U.S. dollar as the reserve currency of the global economy.
Option two? Our country would lose funding for first responders, schools, childcare, and food assistance from low-income and older Americans. It would even take lifesaving Medicaid away from millions and slash veterans’ health care – a poor way to repay those who have sacrificed so much to serve our country.
If Democrats don’t fight this terrible deal, we face the brink of default or government shutdowns every couple of years. Our communities and our economy cannot withstand this – and they shouldn’t have to.
I have long been willing to engage in conversations about making our government more efficient and cutting wasteful spending. This bad deal does not do that, and we will not allow anyone to holding the threat of default over the U.S. and global economies.
I voted NO on the Default on America Act. Working Americans understand that we must pay our bills, and so do I.
I want to know what you think.
Do you support Republicans' threats to destroy our economy by defaulting on our debt and holding essential government programs hostage?

SUCCESS STORY OF THE WEEK:
“Congressman Carson and Mrs. Kathy took their time and effort to help me with my passport renewal. I was traveling by 4/21/23, and the passport said it would be delivered in 10-13 weeks. When I wrote to Congressman Carson for help, I got it a day before my departure day. I’m very grateful for them and all they both did to make it possible. God Bless Mr. Carson and his staff.”
