A Note from Congressman Carson

Dear Friend:

On a hot summer day in August of 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and offered a speech that inspired a nation with four simple words: "I have a dream." In a few days, and just a few miles from where he offered that speech, we will not only honor Dr. King's legacy, we will gather as a nation to celebrate the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

While we reflect on our nation's heritage and the extraordinary leaders that have gone before, the 57th Presidential Inauguration also offers us a unique opportunity for national renewal - a chance for us to come together and set a vision for the future. We know our nation faces significant challenges, and meeting those challenges will require the President and Members of Congress to find common ground. Doing what's best for the American people must be our highest priority.

As we get together this week for viewing parties and to volunteer in local organizations, I hope we can all commit to doing our part to make our communities safer and stronger. It is my great honor to serve you, and I look forward to working with you as we tackle the challenges before us.

Best,
