Is your energy bill too high?

Hoosier families are being hit with skyrocketing energy bills.

For years, our statehouse has passed bills that help utility companies and hurt hardworking Hoosiers – as we already face rising costs for housing, healthcare and other bills.

On top of that, House Republicans just passed a bill that will further increase energy costs. Their so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” includes devastating cuts to clean energy that will cause families to pay an average of $400 more per year nationwide, according to Ways and Means Committee Democrats. Seniors and low-income people will also have an even harder time getting assistance to pay their energy bills, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

At the same time, the Trump administration is weakening environmental regulations, fueling more frequent and severe weather disasters.

Indianapolis has been hit with heat waves, with temperatures soaring into the triple digits, and dangerous storms knocking out power and putting our community at risk. This isn’t a coincidence – study after study shows that climate change isn’t just a problem for the distant future. It’s happening now.

Extreme heat and extreme weather lead to higher energy bills and increased costs – and it also can lead to potentially tragic national disasters.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, provides essential national coordination during national disasters. But the Trump administration wants to eliminate it altogether. That’s why I’m fighting to save FEMA, and make sure if a disaster comes, America is ready. I’m working to pass bipartisan legislation to revitalize FEMA, restore its independence, and ensure help gets to Indianapolis faster.

I helped pass the groundbreaking Inflation Reduction Act in 2022 – the largest investment in climate change mitigation in U.S. history. It included tax credits to help you save money now, plus clean manufacturing investments to create jobs and invest in our future. Read more about those programs here.

As we face these challenges, know that I am always fighting for you – not utility companies, and not the wealthy elite making their fortune at the expense of hardworking families.
